REWARDING THE DAY-N-NIGHT TOILING NURSES The List for the 2013 Outstanding Nurse Award is Out!

Due to working multiple shifts and heavy workload, high stress and irregular daily routines, coupled with short-staff issues, resulting in overtime and overwork, recent news of nurses falling ill or even passing from chronic overwork kept increasing. Nevertheless, no matter how tiring and exhausting, the nursing staff has stayed on their post and continued to care for patients with patience, heart and professionalism. In particular, with the aging population in Taiwan, the number of people with cerebrovascular diseases increases every year. Patients with stroke require extensive and consistent caring from nurses, with extra dedication and energy. In view of this phenomenon and in order to encourage the hardworking nurses, Professor Ming-Chien Kao, Chairman of the Cerebrovascular Diseases Prevention and Treatment Foundation and nationally-renowned neurologist, has requested that the Fondation launch corresponding reward measures starting in 2012 and continuing into 2013, to hold the Outstanding Nurse Award Ceremony. The 2013 Outstanding Nurse Award event has carefully selected 8 nursing staff for the “Extra-Outstanding” award, 10 for the “Outstanding” award, and 72 for the “Superior/Excellent” award.
The Award Ceremony is to be held on December 24, 2013 in the 1st floor Conference Room at the Howard Civil Service International House (No. 30, Sec. 3, Hsin-Sheng South Road). Chairman Kao has invited the R.O.C. Vice President, Mr. Wu Den-Yi, Minister Chiu Wen-ta of the R.O.C. Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Director Lu Mei-Hsiu of the R.O.C. National Union of Nurses’ Association to join the ceremony in recognition of the outstanding service rendered by all the recipients of this award.
